PROHI, an NGO, devoted to the welfare and integration into society of the hearing impaired children, is the brainchild of ENT surgeon, Dr, Zahid Hussain. Zahid is from 15th Entry and was in Haider Wing at Cadet College Hasanabdal from 1968 to 1973. PROHI's special education centre celebrated its 14th Annual Day at Mirpur in the school premises on 17th January, 2009. Dr. Zahid gave away the prizes to the special chidren while spending the day with them in the school.

PROHI is an independent, non-profit rgistered organization, whose membership is limited to the specialist doctors of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, who have volunteered for the welfare of special children. The pilot project was initiated on 7th January, 1995 from a single room, with Hamza Marrawat as its first student.

Dr. Zahid has been associated with PROHI for the last 14 years, ever since he founded it. Since then a lot of milestones have been achieved. The PROHI Optimist Sailing CLub was established on 5th January 1996 and the centre got registered under the Societies Act, on 14th October 1998. On 22nd march 200, the organization was registered as a Centre of Primary Education with the Education Depertment AJK government.

Due to all his hard work,  a Primary Teacher Training Course was conducted in 2001 leading to the launching of Friends of PROHI (FOP) in 2005.

Ms. Fouzia Mailk is the Principal of the Special Education Centre and is being assisted with seven teachers. The Centre offers hearing impaired children primary education and facilities like, audiology clinic, fitting of hearing aids, arts and graphics, drawing and handicrafts, counselling and guidance for parents and computer training.
