President Musharraf attends Annual Parents Day

President General Pervez Musharraf was the Chief Guest at the annual parent's Day at Cadet college Hasanabdal on Saturday 25th October 2003. Upon arrival the President was escorted by a smartly dressed squad of the College Riding Club, in their unique coats and turbans.

The Parent's Day was a very well attended function this year. The Chief Guest was received by the Principal, The Punjab Governor, and the Chairman of the Executive Committee at the helipad on the football grounds, from where he was driven to the Oval, where he was presented with the Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out parade.

Addressing the audience specially urging the young cadets he said, "Our generation has failed this nation. Your generation must succeed, as this nation can not accept any more failures." In his usual candid way, while counting on the tremendous contribution that Abdalians had put in towards the progress of the nation, he said, "it is my misfortune not to have studied at this institution, but my son has." He further went on to say that "once somebody mentions that he is an Abdalian, it carries the stamp of quality."

The President earlier distributed the prizes and announced a special award of Rs. 200,000 for Waqas Mir who broke the record in the Intermediate examination 2003 by securing 993 marks out of 1100. He further announced cash awards of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 for students who had secured first, second and third positions respectively. He also announced a special award of Rs. 25,000 for all sportsmen who had been given prizes. All these cash prizes were over and above the Rs. 10 million grant he announced for the extension of the College buildings, assuring the Principal that once the work started, the government would provide complete assistance to the College for further extension.
