The Abdalians' Association held a get-together and dinner at Lok Virsa on 29th November, 2008. The event was supposed to be the annual dinner and was held on the front lawns of Lok Virsa museum where a marquee was erected specially for the purpose. Normally such a dinner is very well attended by Abdalians, some of whom travel from other cities only to meet old friends. This time around, the event had a very thin attendence, to the extent that the ticket money could not cover the events cost even. Some senior Abdalians from the 11th and 14th entries had to chip in extra money to balance the differential. It will be interesting to see how the event is treated in the accounts of the Association. |
The event was quite similar to what has been seen in the past. There was the usual food and music, the food being pretty good, which was followed by a musical session. The performer was a local lady who sang a few songs, whilst the old boys were busy going down memory lane. A matter of concern to many Abdalians attending the dinner, was the fact that younger Abdalians had no presence at all. It is always the younger crowd, that brings colour and life to such events. The office bearers of the Association should plan such events by involving younger people who can bring new ideas for such events.
The President of the Association, Syed Ashfaq Hussain, despite having an emergency in the family, attended the function and was the last person to leave. S.M. Awais had flown in from Karachi, while Syed Aqil Shah, Sikander Khattak had come from Peshawar. The Lahore chapter boys were not visible though.
If anyone has any pictures of the dinner, please send them to the Administrator of the site. These will be published here later.
