In a rare and unprecedented move by the Hasanabdal Old Boy's Association (HOBA), a letter has been posted on its official website (www.abdalian.net.pk) publically disclosing the names of the "white-collared" recipients of the scholarships being awarded by HOBA. Names of recipients who qualify for scholarships on account of being needy students have always been kept confidential by the College authorities. It used to be such a well guarded secret that in good old days, people did not know if someone was receiving such a scholarship amongst their entrymates and friends.
The letter posted on HOBA's website bears 06-05-2010 as the date and carries Capt. (Retd) Nayyar Islam's signature. Normally such announcements are made by the Secretary General of the Association. It is incomprehensible as to why a person other than the Secretary General is soliciting for funds from fellow Abdalians, specially so, once the new Secretary General has been in place for the last two and a half months. When the Secretary General was contacted to discuss this, he showed his ignorance about the publication of this letter.
A complete account of each recipient has also been published on the website, giving details like, name, kit number, class and the commencement date of the scholarships disbursement. The website shows four accounts, one for students of class 8 and 9 each and two for students belongng to class 10. The names of the donors are also published along with the donation amounts. It appears from the account that each donor was paying for one specific person. Now that the three donor accounts have been left with zero balance, it appears that the fourth donor is paying for all recipients.
On going through the accounts, it was noticed that all scholarships (Rs. 3,500/- per month per student) were disbursed on a monthly basis commencing from January 2009. It was though a little confusing to note that scholarship disbursements were not made in the case of three students for the months of Apr'09, Jun'09. Jul'09 and Sep'09. In one of the donor/recipient accounts, a payment was made to Mr. Haseeb Ilyas amounting to Rs. 35, 450/-, of which there were no attached details available, if Mr. Ilyas was also a recipient.
The letter along with statements of account was sent to the following:
1. All Contributors
2. All those who announced their contributions but did not send
3. The Patron of HOBA, The Principal CCH
4. The President HOBA
5. The Secretary General HOBA
