It is with profound grief that we have learnt of the sad demise of Zakir Hussain Syed at the age of 73, a senior Abdalian from the 2nd Entry (1954). He was the former Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and and eminent sports analyst. He passed away on Thursday at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad, where he was on a routine evening walk. He was 73.
His funeral was held on Friday at 2:30 pm at his ancestral town Kotli Amir Ali, Sialkot. He was awarded the President’s Medal for the Pride of Performance. He was the first recipient of such a high honour in sports administration and management in the country.
Zakir Hussain was the first Pakistani Chief Executive of the PSB. As the youngest ever director general of the board, he came to this organisation as a virtually unknown commodity and left behind a legacy of success and brilliance. Zakir Hussain Syed was the son of the soil of Sialkot and ten years ago he had donated two acres of his land for promotion of the sports and games in his native area.
We pray to Allah Almighty to grant him His choicest place in Heaven and give his family the courage to bear this great loss.
