As the last ashara of Ramazan begins, good progress has been made by the Petarian-Abdalian relief camp at Jhimpir.  Kazi Zulkader Siddiqui, Chairman of Petarians Foundation has just sent us a brief on the various activites being conducted in Sind. The Abdalians Association on the other hand is also geared up to start building homes at two places near Peshawar right after Eid, which will probably be set up at Garhi Momin and Karoona. Information from Abdalians Association is still awaited.

The Patarian Foundation had set up a camp site located near Jhimpir town, 30km from Thatta City on the link road connecting Thatta at National Highway and Nooriabad at Super Highway. This road is currently experiencing heavy influx of IDPs in search of safe transit. The camp site is close to Kalri Lake on high ground, safe from flood and was selected in consultation with Petarian Abdul Wahid Soomro who is the elected MNA from Thatta District.

There is a government school building near the camp which the local administration has allocated to Petarian Foundation for base camp and warehousing of rations.

With the situation having boiled over in Thatta district, the Petarians Foundation, under the Chairmanship of Kazi Zulkader, have decided to set up a tent city of 350-400 tents at Jhimpir. This tent city will be set up and operated by the Petarians/Abdalians. In this regard, the Petarians met Abdul Wahid Soomro (Petarian) who is an MNA from Thatta district along with the Palaris of the area. 

The tent city will comprise of around 350-400 tents total, and should be able to house around 2000-2500 people. The idea to develop it with proper hygienic environment and medical facilities. This shall include proper toilet and washing facilities with water tanks installed to ensure hygiene and cleanliness.

The Petarians have raised around Rs. 80 lacs (Rs. 8 million) so far, through donations and zakat.  They are now looking forward to receive another Rs. 5 million to cover the operational costs for the next 5-6 weeks.

Aitazaz A. Niazi, from the 20th Entry, and a renowned engineer was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Engineering Development Board (EDB) by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday. Aitazaz assumed the office of the CEO today (Tuesday - 17th Aug'10).

The establishment division issued a notification here on Monday that stated that the appointment has been made for a term of two year on contract basis. Mr. Aitazaz is the son of Dr. Umar Khan Niazi (late), who was PakistanIs first Chief Economist. Aitazaz Niazi earned his FSc from Cadet College Hasan Abdal and later earned his Chemical Engineering from the United States of America (USA). He has been in the automobile business for almost two decades now.
