It is a matter of immense pride for Abdalians to see Lt. Gen. Khalid Shameem Wynne being promoted to the rank of a four-star General yesterday and nominated as the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee. Gen Wynne is the first Abdalian to reach the rank of a four-star general in the Army. The other four-star General was Air Chief Marshall Abbas Khattak from the Air Force. Lt. Gen. Khalid Wynne is currently serving as the Chief of the General Staff at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. For those who were a little senior or a few years junior would remember him being in Haider Wing (13th Entry) and playing cricket, for which he also held a Colour as a member of the College cricket team.
After his intermediate examination in 1971, he joined the Army, passing out in 1972 to join his fathers batallion, 20 Punjab Regiment. During his career of over 35 years he graduated from Command & Staff College Quetta, Fuhrungs Academy in Hamburg, Germany and the National Defence College. He holds a masters degree in War Studies from Islamabad University.
Gen. Wynne has held various command, staff and instructional appointments during his military career. He has commanded two Infantry Brigades, including the prestigious Siachen Brigade and an Infantry Division in Quetta. He has also been a Brigade Major of two Infantry Brigades.
On the academic side, he has held various instructional appointments and remained on the faculty of School of Infantry and Tactics Quetta, Command & Staff College Quetta and Pakistan Militart Academy Kakul.
Gen. Wynne also remained Chief of Staff in a Corps Headquarters and Commandant School of Infantry and Tactics Quetta. He was then posted as Deputy Chief of General Staff (DCGS) in June, 2006, where he got promoted to the rank of a Lt Gen and was appointed as Commander 12 Corps in Quetta.
