Lieutenant General Shujaat Zamir Dar was promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant General on 8th October, 2007 and has been appointed as Director General D & E in GHQ. Gen. Dar belongs to the 13th Entry and was in Jinnah Wing and later in Haider Wing during his senior years.
Gen. Dar got his commission in 1972 and joined the Punjab Regiment. After having performed some appointments in the unit and under gone some courses from different schools of instructions including Command and Staff College Quetta, and a course from Germany, he was posted as Brigade Major in a deployed Brigade in Kashmir. He also has extensive instructional experience.
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1992 and was given the Command of his Regiment. On successful completion of the Command, he was posted as General Staff Officer Operations -1 in a Division. In 1994, he was selected for a United Nation Mission in Bosnia. A year later in 1995, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and was given Command of an Infantry Brigade.
In 1998 he did his National Defence Course and was posted to General Headquarters as Director Military Training. In 2000 he was posted to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as Chief of Staff where he has the honour of raising the Bureau from scratch. In recognition of his dedication and committment to his work, he was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2002 and appointed Deputy Chairman of NAB. During his three years in NAB, Gen. Dar has a unique honour of compiling the first and only National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
Thereafter he was entrusted with the command of an Infantry Division during escalation period of 2002. From October 2004 to Mar 2007 he remained Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan.
On 11 March 2007 Gen Dar was posted as Director General Doctrine & Evaluation Directorate in GHQ, where he was elevated to the rank of a Lieutenant General.
