The second Special General Meeting was convened by Hasanabdal Old Boys Association on 30th January 2016 at Flashmans Hotel in Rawalpindi. The turn out in this meeting was abysmally low as a total of twelve Abdalians showed up. This particular meeting was convened to confirm the ballot results of the previous meeting held on 12 December 2015. The previous SGM had a total of forty one people attending the event, wherein 20 members were life members of the Association.
The meeting started at 4:30 pm with the recitation of the Holy Quran by the ex-Secretary General, Mr Nayyar Islam. The President, Syed Ashfaq Hussain said that this was a single agenda point meeting to confirm the results of the ballot held in December which approved some changes in the bye-laws. Despite the fact that the attendance was very low, apparently the motion was confirmed. Syed Ashfaq Hussain further announced that he was stepping aside as the President of the Association and handed over the responsibilities of heading the body to Mr Sikander Khattak (11th Entry) till the next elections.
The date of the next elections shall be announced shortly, after consultation with the College Administration. A suggestion was floated in the meeting that considering the security situation of educational institutes in the country, the Abdalians AGM should be called at some other alternate place. This period marks a unique phase in the history of the Association, where the body does not have a President and the Secretary General and shall be administered by an acting President.
The acting President will now have to quickly formulate a strategy in consultation with the Working Group, whereby an independent Election Commission is formed. The Commission will then proceed towards announcing and holding the elections in due course of time. The meeting ended with high tea, courtesy Syed Ashfaq HUssain.
