Maj. Gen. Najeeb Tariq has been appointed as the new Principal of Cadet College Hasanabdal, a position vacated by Mr. Asif Malik. Gen Najeeb Tariq, born on 7 September 1954, is a Petarian (Kit No. 745/Ayub House) and joined Cadet College Petaro in 1966 and completed his intermediate in 1971.
Najeeb Tariq was an exceptional student at Petaro and was always at the top of the class, and stood first in the district in the Matric Board examination and was awarded a Silver Medal by the college. He also obtained the first position in the entire Board in Intermediate examinations and was awarded the Gold Medal. He was awarded the Stick of Honour after Intermediate in 1971. He was a member of the College Basketball Team at Petaro.
After Petaro, he joined the Pakistan Army and obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aerospace Stream from the College of Aeronautical Engineering at Korangi Creek, University of Karachi in 1976, and was commissioned in the Aviation Division in 1973. He also got his M.Sc. degree in Helicopter Engineering from ENSICA in Toulouse, France in 1990. After completing his NDC course, he also qualified for the M.Sc. in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence University, Islamabad in 2005.
He has held several important positions during his army career. He was the Commandant of the Aviation Engineering School, Rawalpindi in 2001-2002, and Commandant of the College of EME, Rawalpindi in 2006-2008. He has also been the Commander of the Aviation Division. Najeeb Tariq was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2006. He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 2005 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 2007.
We want to wish him the best of luck, although his appointment has been challenged in court of law in terms of qualifications needed.
