With the situation having boiled over in Thatta district, the Petarians Foundation, under the Chairmanship of Kazi Zulkader, have decided to set up a tent city of 350-400 tents at Jhimpir. This tent city will be set up and operated by the Petarians/Abdalians. In this regard, the Petarians met Abdul Wahid Soomro (Petarian) who is an MNA from Thatta district along with the Palaris of the area. The tent city will comprise of around 350-400 tents total, and should be able to house around 2000-2500 people. The idea to develop it with proper hygienic environment and medical facilities. This shall include proper toilet and washing facilities with water tanks installed to ensure hygiene and cleanliness. The Petarians have raised around Rs. 80 lacs (Rs. 8 million) so far, through donations and zakat. They are now looking forward to receive another Rs. 5 million to cover the operational costs for the next 5-6 weeks. |
The Petarian Foundation had nearly 90 tents which were not being used near Nowshera, and which have been transported to Jhimpir. In addition, the Foundation has received a donation of 250 tents from a Turkish company Zorlu Enerji along with 500 beds and other material. These tents are being airlifted from Turkey and will be available at the site on 31st August. The Turks have also donated an additional $10,000 for site set up expenses through the courtesy of the Country Head of Zorlu Enerji, who is a graduate of METU.
Sigma Motors is providing the Petarian Foundation with one 4-wheel drive Defender vehicle for use by the operational staff. It is also providing one ambulance which will be on standby for emergency at the camp. This will be made available for use by all camps in the region where there may be a medical emergency. The Foundation already has one of its own Shehzore trucks and one boat on a trailer for rescue work as well.
