On the occasion of Independence Day, August 14, 2012, President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has conferred Civil Awards on Pakistani citizens and foreign nationals for excellence in various fields of activities. Syed Aqil Shah was conferred with an award of Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his public services in promoting sports.
Syed Aqil Shah belongs to the 10th Entry and has served as President HOBA. He is now the Minister of Sports KPK and was leading the Pakistani contingent in London Olympics 2012. He has the unique distinction of taking the Pakistan contingent to 24th Olympic Games at Seoul-1988, Korea and 14th Commonwealth Games Victoria-94 Canada, besides representing Pakistan in the SAF Games meeting held in Madras and the 15th O.C.A General Assembly meeting held in Bangkok. A history in sports was created by him by organizing the most successful 23rd National Games in 26 disciplines at Peshawar 1990.
