The Board of Governors of Cadet College Hasanabdal and the College Administration hosted an alumni lunch in Cadet College on Saturday, 30th November, 2013. This is the first time that the invitation was extended to the alumni by the College Administration. In previous years, the lunch was part and parcel of the Annual General Meeting of Hasanabdal Old Boy's Association, in which elections of various positions of office bearers was an integral activity. The difference between this years lunch and the previous years, was that, there were no elections allowed by the College Administration this year. All arrangements of the event were made by the College Administration including bearing all the costs pertaining to the event. In years as well, all such arrangements and costs were borne by the College Administration.
According to many participants, the function went extremely smoothly, probably the smoothest in the last decade or so. The main factor attributed to the success of the event was that elections were not allowed, as such elections always created uneasiness amongst the alumni, barring those who were elected to various positions. After the wreath laying and dua at the Shuhada Monument the visitors went to witness the wreath laying ceremony at Mr. Hugh Catchpole's grave and observed a one minute silence, as a mark of respect. The visitors then assembled in the newly renovated Naeem Hall where the Vice Principal, Mr. A. Q. Saggu and the Principal, Maj. Gen. Najeeb Tariq gave presentations on the renovation and reconstruction project undertaken during the 2013 summer vacation. The audience applauded intensely, when they were told that the successful outcome of the project and its timely completion was made possible by Lt. Gen. Najeeb Ullah Khan (19th Entry) through his untiring efforts, despite his commitments and time constraints as the E-in-C.
Prof Dilshad Hussain's address was the key note. He showered all praises on the Principal for doing a great job and even called him "The Builder of New Cadet College". He was given a standing ovation at the end of his address. Maj. Nadir Pervez of the 1st Entry also addressed the audience and told them that whatever achievements stand to his credit in his life, have only been made possible due to attending Cadet College Hasanabdal. About the Endowment Fund, although the Principal stressed upon the need to have financial security for CCH, he did not force anyone to contribute. No guns were put on peoples heads to open the purse zippers. The Principal in his address also told the audience that the formation of a Trust was in progress and this Trust will eventually own and look after the Endowment Fund. Although the lunch was FREE, there was a notice pinned on the wall saying "Voluntary Contribution for Lunch - Rs. 500/- per head" and surprisingly a vast majority of the alumni paid for their lunch.
The day ended with a mushaira in Naeem Hall which was attended by a good number of people. You may see more pictures by clicking here.
