Two Abdalians from 41st Entry made history by clean sweeping both of the highest national level annual awards of NUST, Pakistan. Dr. Yasar Ayaz from 41st Entry Jinnah Wing bagged the Overall Best Teacher Award whereas Dr. Saad Qaisar of 41st Entry Haider Wing (Wing Commander) claimed the Overall Best Researcher Award of NUST. Both prestigious awards comprise President’s Gold Medal and a cash prize of Rs. 150,000 each. The awards were conferred by Mr. Mamnoon Hussain (President of Pakistan) on May 7, 2014 during the 8th Post Graduate Convocation at NUST Main Campus, Sector H-12, Islamabad. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Shareef also participated in the ceremony and appreciated their efforts.
NUST is a comprehensive large scale university with major campuses in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Risalpur and Karachi etc. It is currently the only Pakistani University that is ranked among the top 500 of the world by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (UK). The university offers a wide range of academic disciplines ranging from Engineering, Information Technology, Medical Sciences and Natural Sciences to Art, Design and Philosophy etc. Faculty members of NUST from all of the disciplines offered at various campuses all over Pakistan compete for the only two top performance awards which the university confers annually i.e. the Overall Best Teacher Award and Overall Best Researcher Award. This year both of the prestigious awards have been claimed by 41st Entry Abdalians: Dr. Yasar Ayaz and Dr. Saad Qaisar.
Dr. Yasar Ayaz holds a PhD in Robotics and Machine Intelligence from Tohoku University (Japan). He is currently working at NUST as the Head of Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME). Dr. Yasar also directs the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Engineering (RISE) Laboratory at NUST where his team of students conducts research in the areas of Humanoids / Walking Robots, Mobile Robotics, Motion Planning and Cybernetics & Bionics. Dr. Yasar’s biography has featured twice in Who’s Who in the World (Berkeley, USA) and he is also listed among the Top 100 Educators of the World (Cambridge, UK).
Dr. Saad Qaisar has earned his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering specializing in Communication and Networking from Michigan State University (USA). He is currently working as Assistant Professor at NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS), Islamabad where he directs the Communications, Networks and Multimedia (CoNNekT) Laboratory. He has also recently launched his own company called Bitsym Pvt Ltd / LLC. for productization / commercialization of research conducted by his team.
