Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) conferred on two Abdalians

The President of Pakistan conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) on two Abdalians at the last Pakistan Day held on 23rd March, 2009. The awards are announced once a year on the Independence Day and given on Pakistan Day to the people of Pakistan by the President. For those in the military it is given after distinguished service and is also the highest medal award that can be awarded to those at the rank of Major General/Lieutenant General.

This year the award was conferred upon Maj Gen Muhammad Ovais Mustafa, SI(M) belonging to the 13th Entry and Maj Gen S. Ithar Hussain Shah, from the 15th Entry. Gen. Ovais has recently been posted to head the MVRDE in Rawalpindi, from his earlier position as DG ITD in GHQ.

Asad Ali AbidiDr. Asad Abidi is an IEEE Fellow who is renown worldwide for his work in the field of RM-CMOS.  He has the honour of being a Member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering, the highest professional lifetime distinction accorded to American engineers. He is a recipient of the 2008 IEEE Donald O. Pederson Award in Solid State Circuits and the 1997 IEEE Donald G. Fink Award, the 1997 ISSCC Jack Raper Outstanding Technology Directions Paper Award, the IEEE Millennium Medal, and was named a top-ten author by the ISSCC. The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science recognized him in 2007 with the Lockheed-Martin Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Abidi was the Program Secretary for the International Solid-State Circuits Conference from 1984 to 1990, and General Chairman of the Symposium on VLSI Circuits in 1992. He was Secretary of the IEEE Solid-state Circuits Council from 1990 to 1991. From 1992 to 1995, he was Editor of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits.

RF-CMOS is the technology that enabled the wireless revolution in the 1990s. Products incorporating emerging standards such as 802.11 (Wi-fi), Bluetooth and fiber optic applications need high-performance and reliable manufacturing solutions based on RF CMOS. RF-CMOS allows the use of sophisticated modulation/demodulation schemes and algorithms, high quality error detection and correction systems, resulting in high performance, lossless digital communication channels.

Brig. Mukkaram's daughters wedding

Brig. Mukarram Ali Khan's daughter got married on 4th November, 2006. The wedding ceremony was held at Brig. Mukkaram's (10th Entry) family home on G.T. Road Hasanabdal.

The wedding was almost like a mini Abdalian re-union apart from a huge number of guests from all walks of life. Syed Aqil Shah, Col. Anwar (Minister for Cooperatives), Gen. Zubair, Gen. Sabahat (Chairman POF), Asif Ali Shah (IG & Comdt Police Academy), Brig. Siddiqi, were a few among many Abdalians.

We all wish the bride and the groom a very happy and propsperous future.

Azhar Ali Shah announces a Gold Medal for best sportsman

Azhar Ali Shah, belonging to the 24th entry (Haider Wing) and son of Late Prof. Z. A. Shah (Ex-Principal) announced an award of a Gold Medal for the best sportsman of year at the annual general meeting held on 27th January, 2008 at Cadet College Hasanabdal.

Azhar is a telecom professional and has been in the business for the last 20 years. In recognition of services rendered to Cadet College Hasanabdal in the areas of academics and sports, by his late father, he announced a Gold Medal (Z.A.Shah Best Sportsman of the Year) with a cash prize of Rs.10,000 yesterday in the College.

The announcement was widely appreciated and applauded by all Abdalians present at the occasion. Well done Azhar!

Hassan Wasim (A/44 ) gets married

Hassan Wasim, of 44th Entry (Aurangzeb Wing) got married on 17th December, 2008. The wedding reception was held at the Artillery Mess in Rawalpindi. We all wish Hassan and the bride a very happy and prosperous future.

Hassan is a medical doctor and graduated from the Army Medical College Rawalpindi. His wedding was attended by a good number of classfellows from the 44th Entry.
