Abdalian Alumni meet at PC Rawalpindi

Tahir Nizami, Afaq Husain and Azhar Ali ShahClose to a dozen Abdalian Alumni met at Pearl Continental for their monthly meet today. This monthly meet activity was started by Dr. Saeed Lehrasab about three years ago and it takes place on the first Sunday of every month. These meeting give the alumni an opportunity to meet one another at close quarters. This particular meeting was representated by 16th Entry being the senior most and 46th Entry being the junior most. Zakir Habib belonging to the 16th Entry and Zohaib Hassan from the 46th Entry, sandwiched 17th, 24th, 25th and 44th Entries.

This meet takes place between 4pm and 6pm and lately it was decided by the coordinators that the venue will alternate between Islamabad and Rawalpindi every month. The participants today inlcuded Zakir Habib (16th Entry), Tariq O. Rehman (17th Entry), Dr. Afaq Husain, Azhar Ali Shah, Dr. Saeed Lehrasab, all three from the 24th Entry, Engr. Tahir Nizami (25th Entry), Bilal Javed (44th Entry) and Zohaib Hassan (46th Entry).

Alumni who are interested to attend the next event on the first Sunday in March are advised to contact Dr. Saeed Lehrasab (24th Entry) at his cell number 0333-524-5142. Amir Goraya (30th Entry) called to regret that he could not attend due to his daughters illness.

Participants go by the "dutch-system" and pay on a per head basis. Azhar Shah, Zakir Habib and Bilal Javed were taking part in such a meet for the first time. Saeed Lehrasab, wearing his Indonesian cap, was also attending for the first time after coming back from Haj, though he happens to be the founder starting this activity three years ago.

Faisal Ijaz heads PVTC as Chairman

Faisal Ijaz KhanFaisal Ijaz Khan was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO for Punjab Vocational Training Council, a Skills Development Company in Punjab in June 2010. This Rs. 6 Billion Company is an autonomous body and is responsible for training of over 15 million youth (marginalized sectors of the society) in Punjab between the age of 15 – 24 years. Having presence in all the 36 districts, PVTC is managing over 150 Institutes and a Staff and Teachers Training Institute. PVTC is a successful example of Public Private Partnership program. PVTC is responsible for providing skilled workforce to the industry, reduce drop out rates, ensuring job opportunities for the poor and creating necessary linkage between academia and the industry.

He has Worked for over 9 years in emerging markets in Africa and Middle East. During the last 4 years, he was directly engaged with different consulting firms like Delta Partners, McKenzie, Booz&Co, Teckot and Value Partners on different commercial and Marketing Excellence Turnaround Programs. Prior to his joining PVTC, Faisal was working with different international companies like CCO for Zantel, CMO for Zain in Sudan , Acting CEO / CCO for Warid in Pakistan, CCO for Uganda Telecom working for Deutsche Telecom, Commercial Director for SabaFon in Yemen working for Orascom, Director Prepaid and Distribution for Mobilink in Pakistan.

Before joining the Telecom industry he used to work as a Banker with Deutsche Bank. He belongs to the 29th Entry and holds an MBA degree from Chicago and also a BS Engineering Degree.

HOBA elections to be held on 13 Mar 2011

  

HOBA has announced the schedule and date of elections for the position of the President of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of Abdalians Association on its official website. The elections are scheduled to be held on 13-Mar-2011, at Cadet College Hasanabdal at the Annual General Meeting. The election schedule apparently has been dispatched to 321 registered members of HOBA through post, as against 293 members last year. A list of eligible voters has also been published on HOBA's website. (Click here to see the Voters List). This list includes one "Blank" name as well. Engr. Jameel Malik of the 11th Entry has filed his nomination papers through courier, as delivery in person is not authorised by HOBA's constitution.

The elections will be held under article 19.g of the revised Memorandum and Articles of Association which were "approved" in the Special General Meeting held on 09-Dec-2009. A schedule for elections vide clause 19.g of the revised Memorandum and Articles has also been published on HOBA's official website.

Javed Ghani's daughter gets married

Cdre (Retd) Javed Ghani's eldest daughter, Amber got married to Naveed Arain, son of Capt. Safdar Jameel, a Pakistan Navy officer, on 4th February, 2011 in Islamabad. Javed Ghani belongs to the 17th Entry and recently retired from Pakistan Navy.

The wedding was attending by a large cross section of people, comprising family, friends and entrymates. The venue was Pakistan Navy Gymnasium in Islamabad. Masud Niazi and Shoaib Ishtiaq had travelled from Mianwali and Karachi to attend this wedding. Other entrymates who were present included, Asmat Saleem, Tariq Obed, Rear Admiral Zakaullah, Rear Admiral Shahid Saeed, Shoaib Shafi and Col. Saad Azim.

Naveed is working as a senior network enginner with Cable & Wireless in the UK. We wish both the bride and the groom a very happy and prosperous life in the future.

Prof. Dilshad inaugurates General Automobile's new Auto Display Centre

Presentation to Dilshad SbProf. Dilshad Hussain (SI) was the chief guest at the inauguration of General Automobile's new Auto Display Centre on Saturday, 7th April, 2012. The event was held at General Automobile's new Auto Display Centre (ADC) on the main GT Road, Rawalpindi, constructed right opposite Al-Shifa Eye Hospital. The even was attended by a large cross-section of people belonging to the automobile industry, customers of General Automobile, Mr. Misbah ul Hasnain and Abdalian friends of Amir Sultan Shah.

Amir Sultan Shah, the Chief Executive Officer (18th Entry) received Prof. Dilshad Hussain, who after cutting the ribbon, was shown around the Auto Display Centre. Prof. Dilshad offered a dua for the company's continuous success after cutting the ribbon and then again, once he was walking through the display centre. Hasan Sultan, Amir Sultan's son, who is an Abdalian as well, delivered the welcome address and narrated the success story of General Automobile, which started as a small company back in April 1983.

Amir Sultan while addressing the audience also gave a brief history of the company. He thanked the guests and requested Prof. Dilshad Hussain to share his thoughts. Dilshad Sb congratulated Amir Sultan at the inauguration and prayed for his success. He then deliberated on the role of a teacher and how he shapes his students in the most formative years of their lives. There were moments in his speech when he became quite emotional, while taking great pride in the successes of his students. The CEO later presented Dilshad Sb with a shield as a souvenier for the event. Later a very sumptuous dinner was served and Dilshad Sb seen off.
