Scholarship recipients names announced in public

Scholarship donation solicitation letterIn a rare and unprecedented move by the Hasanabdal Old Boy's Association (HOBA), a letter has been posted on its official website (www.abdalian.net.pk) publically disclosing the names of the "white-collared" recipients of the scholarships being awarded by HOBA. Names of recipients who qualify for scholarships on account of being needy students have always been kept confidential by the College authorities. It used to be such a well guarded secret that in good old days, people did not know if someone was receiving such a scholarship amongst their entrymates and friends.

The letter posted on HOBA's website bears 06-05-2010 as the date and carries Capt. (Retd) Nayyar Islam's signature. Normally such announcements are made by the Secretary General of the Association. It is incomprehensible as to why a person other than the Secretary General is soliciting for funds from fellow Abdalians, specially so, once the new Secretary General has been in place for the last two and a half months. When the Secretary General was contacted to discuss this, he showed his ignorance about the publication of this letter.

Abdalians and Sargodhians cross the border on foot

Since the news about Mr. Catchpoles centenary celebrations was published on this web site, scores of Abdalians, Sargodhians and Abbottonians made enquiries and showed their interest to participate in this event. As the day drew closer, 73 people finally submitted their passports to the Indian High Commission for visas. Although everyone was given visas, a group of 65 people crossed the border on 24th May 2007. 21 people belonged to the Abdalians group from this.

The Sargodhians Association had arranged for a dinner at PAF Officers Mess in Lahore on the eve of the departure. This was a briefing session, followed by dinner. Arrangements were also made for accomodation so that people do not feel any inconvenience in getting together at the departure point. On arrival at Wagha border, the delegates were received by the Wing Commander of the Rangers Unit, while all major television channels and newspapers were present to cover the occasion. Headquarter Rangers had arranged for refreshments, while the immigration department processed necessary formalities before the cross over. The delegates were taken around on a guided tour of the border area as well.
