Tariq O. Rehman joins MCB Group

Tariq Obedur Rehman left Askari Investments Management Limited early this month and joined MCB Asset Management Company Limited on 7th April, 2008. Tariq was in Haider Wing and is from the 17th Entry (1970-75). He has joined MCB Asset Management as Regional Head (North) and is responsible for Corporate Sales. His assignment is challenging in the sense that he will be heading a large geographic area.

Tariq Obed (or TO), as he is known to his friends from Hasanabdal days, came back to Pakistan in 1985 and set up a software house by the name of CASTechnologies, developing automated systems for Islamabd Stock Exchange, Stolen Vehicle Recovery System for Adamjee Insurance Company, design document for the Natiional Library and Accounting Systems for commercial enterprises. He was also the co-founder of InfoLink (Information Link (Pvt) Limited), which was Pakistan first email/internet company which commenced operations in July 1993. He was instrumental in deploying automated solutions for Kohat Tunnel, Lahore-Faisalabad Motorway Project and Facility Management Services for Army Officers Housing Colony in Lahore. His background is in finance and accounts, but has always been an entreprenurial marketing person.

Lt. Gen. Khalid Shameem Wynne promoted as a 4-Star General

 

Lt. Gen. Khalid Shameem WyneIt is a matter of immense pride for Abdalians to see Lt. Gen. Khalid Shameem Wynne being promoted to the rank of a four-star General yesterday and nominated as the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee. Gen Wynne is the first Abdalian to reach the rank of a four-star general in the Army. The other four-star General was Air Chief Marshall Abbas Khattak from the Air Force. Lt. Gen. Khalid Wynne is currently serving as the Chief of the General Staff at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. For those who were a little senior or a few years junior would remember him being in Haider Wing (13th Entry) and playing cricket, for which he also held a Colour as a member of the College cricket team.

After his intermediate examination in 1971, he joined the Army, passing out in 1972 to join his fathers batallion, 20 Punjab Regiment. During his career of over 35 years he graduated from Command & Staff College Quetta, Fuhrungs Academy in Hamburg, Germany and the National Defence College. He holds a masters degree in War Studies from Islamabad University.

4 Abdalians in the new parliaments

Four Abdalians have been elected in the recent elections for the national and provincial assemblies. Khawaj Mohammed Asif and Khurram Dastgir Khan, both from PML-N were elected as Members of the National Assembly, whereas Syed Aqil Shah (ANP) and Dr. Tahir Ali Javed (PML-Q) were elected as Members of the Provincial Assemblies of NWFP and Punjab respectively.

A/Cdr Rizwanullah Khan Shaheed Memorial Trust formed by his family

A/Cdr Rizwanullah Khan (17th Entry) embraced shahadat in the fatal PAF air crash in Kohat on 20-Feb-2003. His family has since formed a Trust in his memory and of those who were with him on that date. The Trust got registered on April 2, 2003 as a non-profit, non-political, non-government organization in Islamabad.

The Trust intends to provide sustainable scholarships to capable children, those who qualify the entrance criteria for specific educational institutions but can not afford to attend these, so that they may get a chance to use their intellect, develop their skills, improve their quality of life and, eventually, add to the nation’s pool of skilled human resource.

Air Cdr (Rtd) Rais Ahmad Rafi has been appointed as the Chairman of the Trust. Other members include, Begum Zubaida Abdullah, Begum Roohina Rafi, Mrs. Samina Rizwan, Air Cdr Khalid Pervez Marwat, Gp Capt Aminullah Khan, Captain Imran Khan, Umar Rafi and Dr. Ayesha Farooq.

An amount of Rs. 500,000 has been donated on behalf of Air Cdre Rizwanullah Khan Shaheed from the flyers’ insurance received by his family. he family has additionally pledged Rs. 15,000 every month to meet the expenses.

Mujahid Khurshid elected Chairman of PFMA (Punjab)

Mujahid Khurshid

Mujahid Khurshid Haq was elected unopposed as Chairman of Pakistan Flour Mills Association (Punjab) for the term 2010-11 in the elections held on 27th September 2010. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Lahore Flour & General Mills and Ali Flour & General Mills Sheikhupura, situated in Lahore and Sheikhupura respectively.

Mujahid belongs to the 17th Entry and was in Jinnah Wing from 1970 to 1975. He represented the College as a member of the hockey team and was awarded a College Colour as well. After his intermediate examination in 1975, he graduated from the famous F.C college Lahore. He holds a degree in Law from the Punjab University.
